2020 Tannat, Allegretto Vineyard
From our resort estate vineyard comes a rare example of the Tannat grape. Historically grown in southwest France, and now one of the most prominent grapes in Uruguay, where it is considered the national grape. Domestically, it did not receive much attention until the late 20th century, when plantings began to appear in the Santa Cruz mountains and in our very own Paso Robles region. Correctly described as a hearty, robust, powerfully structured wine, which finds favor with lovers of bold, intense, forthright red. Aroma and flavor-wise look for black currant, anise, and hints of exotic cardamom spice. Aged in 100% new American oak barrels. Dare we say our Tannat reminds us of an uptown Zinfandel and therefore pair it with long, slow cooked, and braised dishes in the oven. For those of us who are determined to grill year-round, you have found your companion wine. Enjoy now for immediate gratification and cellar for 5 plus years to allow the wines softer side to show.
